10 degrees, 20-30K SE wind, cloudy and humid. Family obligations make it necessary to finesse the schedule a bit, so this week I’m riding Sunday-Tuesday-Thursday. The schedule only called for 30-40K, but what the heck. It was Sunday and not raining. I did a mostly flat ride with a couple of guys faster than me. If you want to get stronger, a sure fired way is try to keep up with someone faster. They only had to wait for me on one hill, which I consider OK for this early in the season.

12 degrees, 40K W winds. Remember I said I would work on climbing faster? Going out with a couple of stronger guys was a good start, but today I did every cyclist’s favourite workout, hill intervals. If you’ve never done them, you don’t know what you’re missing. Basically you go as hard as you can uphill, until your legs and lungs can’t take it anymore. Then, you take a few minutes to recover, and do it again. I’ve heard it said they are so much fun because it feels so good when you stop. Anyway, I managed to get in a 40K ride peppered with intervals.

19 degrees 10-20K variable winds. Again I’m exceeding the distance indicated on my training calendar, but the weather was just too nice not to add some extra KMs. I did a fairly hilly route, with a tailwind going out and, of course, a nasty headwind coming back. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right? I’ve always considered that to be a flawed theory, but we shall see.
